The Ater's time with alpacas, goes back for decades when Madelyn & Gary Ater's good friends, Merle and Susan Pacey and Bob Peacock, had started the now retired ranch of the "Alpacas of Napa Valley".

A few years later, the Ater's then introduced Madelyn's sister, Mary Siep, and her partner Kim Rooney, to the owners of the Napa Valley ranch. These young women then went off and started their own alpaca ranch, "Humming Angels Alpacas", which was for a number of years located in Lebanon, Oregon.

While her sister's alpaca ranch was located in Oregon, Madelyn & Gary would visit often and eventually, they acquired a pregnant Chilean female alpaca named, Ober's Sybil, and that was the start of "Ater's Alpacas".

The Ater's herd began with Miss Sybil and her male cria, Sir Morgan, which is today an outstanding herd sire with outstanding fiber. Sir Morgan, and his crias have taken many blue and red show ribbons.

Other alpacas were later acquired, other ribbons won, and other crias were born to where the Ater herd became 11 alpacas. Some were sold and others born, and then wanting to be more involved with the alpacas, in 2012, the Aters' moved the herd to agist with the alpacas at the "Lilly of the Valley Ranch" (LOV) in Modesto, CA.

At age 21, Miss Sybil has since passed on, but the herd has continued to grow to its current 13 alpacas, with two more crias due later in 2014. Madelyn & Gary now visit & work at the LOV ranch every other weekend and are there to help every year with the shearing, the Annual Farm Day Event, and whenever help is needed at the ranch.

Ater's Alpacas now offer 100% alpaca products such as rugs, hats, berets, scarves, cowls, infinity scarves, alpaca felting, yarn and alpaca jewelry. Visit our web site at: www.atersalpacas.com .
